Product description

A bench plaque is a small engraved plate fixed to the backrest or seat of a bench. Most often it remembers a loved one on a memorial bench, but it can just as easily mark a donated bench in a park or garden, celebrate an anniversary, or dedicate a seat in a school, club, or place of worship. Because each plaque is made to order, you choose the material, size, and wording — a name and dates, a short message, or a line that meant something — and we engrave it to last outdoors for years.

What to put on a bench plaque

  • A name, with dates of birth and passing

  • A short dedication, such as ‘In loving memory of…’ or ‘In memory of…’

  • A favourite phrase, verse, or line that was theirs

  • A donor or dedication line for a park, garden, or public bench

  • A small emblem, motif, or logo alongside the text

Materials

Stainless steel

A premium, contemporary plate, fibre-laser engraved into acid-proof stainless steel for a crisp, high-contrast finish. The most hard-wearing option we make, and beautifully understated — well suited to a lasting memorial in an exposed spot.

  • Material: Stainless acid-proof steel

  • Thickness: 1 mm

  • Production: Fibre-laser engraving

  • Maximum size: 180 × 180 mm — a natural fit for a bench backrest or slat

  • Durability: Extremely durable, corrosion and weather resistant

  • Use: Indoor and outdoor

Laser-engraved aluminium

Coated aluminium with a matte finish, engraved so the laser reveals a contrasting colour beneath. Lighter and more affordable than stainless steel, and just as at home outdoors — a dependable, long-lasting choice for a memorial or dedication bench.

  • Material: Coated aluminium

  • Thickness: 1 mm

  • Production: Laser engraving

  • Finish: Matte coated

  • Durability: Corrosion resistant; won't fade, peel, or wear

  • Use: Indoor and outdoor

Engraved plastic

A multi-layer laminate engraved to reveal a contrasting core, giving clean two-colour lettering. The warmest and most economical option, with a wider choice of colours and the largest sizes — suitable outdoors in the right colour combination.

  • Material: Multi-layer plastic laminate

  • Thickness: 0.8 mm or 1.6 mm

  • Production: Laser engraving

  • Colours: Two-colour combinations, including outdoor-suitable options

  • Size range: Up to 295 × 295 mm

  • Use: Indoor and outdoor (in a suitable colour combination)

How to choose your bench plaque

Which material is right for you?

Choose stainless steel for the most premium, hard-wearing finish, laser-engraved aluminium for a lasting metal plaque at a gentler price, or engraved plastic for the warmest look, more colour choice, and larger sizes. All three are made to sit outdoors and hold their finish for years.

Sizing it to your bench

Measure the backrest slat or the flat area where the plaque will sit, and allow a small margin around the edges. A plaque of around 150–200 mm wide suits most benches; you can set the exact dimensions on the design page, up to 180 × 180 mm in stainless steel and 295 × 295 mm in engraved plastic.

Choosing the wording

There's no need to fit everything on — a name, dates, and one short line often reads best and stays clear over time. Take your time with the words; you can preview the layout as you design, and we'll engrave it exactly as you've set it out.

How to fit your bench plaque

Every plaque arrives ready to mount, with the fixing you choose at the design stage:

  • Screws — the usual choice for a wooden or metal bench — fixed firmly through pre-drilled holes.

  • Pre-drilled holes — add corner holes on the design page so the plaque is ready to screw straight on.

  • Adhesive — a no-drill option for a smooth, solid surface where screws aren't wanted.

FAQ

Are the bench plaques weatherproof?

Yes. We make them in stainless steel, laser-engraved aluminium, and engraved plastic — all suited to the outdoors. The lettering is engraved into the surface, so it won't fade, peel, or wash away.

What size should a bench plaque be?

Measure the slat or flat area on your bench and allow a small margin. Around 150–200 mm wide suits most benches; you can set the exact size on the design page, up to 180 × 180 mm in stainless steel and 295 × 295 mm in engraved plastic.

What should I write on a memorial bench plaque?

Most plaques carry a name, dates, and a short line such as ‘In loving memory of…’. A name and one meaningful phrase usually reads best and stays clear over the years.

What materials can I choose from?

Stainless steel for a premium, hard-wearing plate, laser-engraved aluminium for a lasting metal finish at a gentler price, or engraved plastic for a warmer look with more colours and larger sizes.

Do you offer brass bench plaques?

For an outdoor bench we recommend our engraved, weatherproof materials rather than brass, which we make as a printed, indoor product. Stainless steel gives a similarly classic, lasting look outdoors.

How do I attach the plaque to a bench?

Most people screw it on through pre-drilled corner holes, which you can add on the design page. Adhesive is available as a no-drill option for smooth, solid surfaces.

How long will a bench plaque last outdoors?

Many years. Engraved metal and laminate are made for long-term outdoor use, and an occasional wipe keeps the plaque looking cared for.
